From romantic cruises along the San Diego Bay and cultural events around the city, the list of events below is sure to offer something for everyone.

You'll catch the middle of the whale watching season where hundreds of whales pass through the waters off of San Diego and, of course, Valentine's Day as well.

Whale Watching (December- April)



Every year, the Gray Whale migration takes place.  Thousands of whales make the trek from Alaska to the warm waters of Baja California to give birth to their calves. Whale Watching in San Diego can be enjoyed a variety of ways.  You can opt to enjoy Whale Watching from several areas off shore, such as the Birch Aquarium or the Cabrillo National Monument.  If you’d like to get a closer view of these majestic animals, you can book a Whale Watching cruise via several excursion companies.  Whale Watching cruise is included with the purchase of a San Diego Go Card.

Museum Month (February 1-28)

Museum of Man-Balboa Park

Explore the history, art and science of San Diego.  For the entire month of February, 40 San Diego museums are ½ price.  Museum Month passes can be picked up at any Macy’s store location in San Diego.  The pass grants up to four people entry into 40 museums for half the price of regular admission.  Passes are good for the entire month of February. This is one of the favorite San Diego February events for visitors and locals alike. 



Black Film Festival (January 30-February 2)

One of the largest Black Film Festivals in the country, it screens over 100 films a year focusing on African America and African Diaspora Cinema. Advance tickets can be purchased online at the festival’s website or at the box office a week before the festival.  Panel discussions, an awards gala and the Shaft Super Fly party help to round out the festival experience.   Screenings take place at the Reading Theaters in the Gaslamp District.



Carnevale

Carnevale is a Little Italy tradition.  This event mirrors the Carnevales of Venice. Participants dress in traditional Venetian regalia and perform vignettes. 

It’s a unique way to enjoy Little Italy.  There is plenty of food and wine, as well as music, to keep attendees happy and engaged in the festivities. 



Ray at Night (February 8)

Ray at Night is a combination of art, music food and funRay Street, in North Park, is a tiny street lined with art galleries and creative boutiques.  Every month, it becomes a lively place for artists and art lovers to congregate, make art, shop, eat and enjoy the performances by bands and other artists.  Located on Ray street, near 30th street in North Park, this event takes place from 6:00PM to 10:00PM

Sweetheart Sail (February 8-9)

A unique way to celebrate Valentine's Day, the Sweetheart Sail takes participants on a 3-hour cruise around the San Diego Bay.  You'll enjoy seeing several San Diego attractions aboard the California, the state's official Tall ship. 

The trip includes a keepsake photo, champagne (or apple cider) and snacks.  The ticket includes admission to the Maritime Museum and access to all the historic ships. Tickets are $60 per adult and $35 per child.



Padres FanFest (February 8)

Get ready to kick-off the baseball season at Petco Park.  FanFest is an opportunity to play on the Petco Park field, get pictures and autographs of your favorite players, take tours of the clubhouse and more. 

Kids can enjoy the pitching and hitting clinics and the interactive play areas.  The events begins at 10 AM.
 





Mardi Gras (February 12)

Come enjoy "Fat Tuesday" in San Diego style.  The Gaslamp Quarter is home to the largest Mardi Gras festival on the West coast.  Celebrate with food, drinks, live entertainment and dancing.  This block party is a 21 and up event.  Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the gate.



Valentine's Day   (February 14)

The city is bustling on this day of friendship and love.  There are many options for celebrating with your loved one.  Check out some of the most romantic restaurants in San Diego.  Don't forget about the great art and entertainment around the city.  You can head to places such as the Old Globe theater, the La Jolla Playhouse or the Civic Theater to enjoy a night of theater-going.  Don't forget the more unique things to do such as a Gondola ride in Coronado and sailing on the bay.


Chinese New Year Food and Cultural Fair  (February 8-9)

Celebrate the Chinese New Year at this annual cultural fair. This two day festival features great food and cultural entertainment that is sure to please the entire family.  The festival takes place at the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum in the Gaslamp Quarter at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and J Street.



SEA Days at the Birch Aquarium (February 16)


Experience Science, Exploration and Adventure days at the Birch Aquarium are a monthly feature focusing on hands-on exploration and special activities that highlight current cutting edge research and learning.  The special activities give visitors an opportunity to interact with the Scripps Oceanography scientists.  These events are included with the price of admission and take place between 11AM-3PM.



Marilyn Monroe Movie Marathon (February 22)

This movie marathon features 5 Marilyn Monroe films and takes place from 12PM-11PM at the Birch North Park Theater.  Tickets are available for individual movies or as an all-day pass.  Tickets available at the Film Out website.
